Asthma Prediction

Early childhood wheezing is common, but its long-term outcome in relation to asthma beyond childhood remains poorly defined. Although risk scores have been developed to predict childhood asthma, the natural history of asthma often involves remission, relapse, and new-onset over the life course, particularly during adolescence and early adulthood. Existing childhood asthma risk scores may not be as relevant for predicting asthma in adulthood or for identifying cases of persistent asthma from childhood through adulthood.

To our knowledge, current risk scores do not predict asthma beyond childhood. Therefore, we aimed to develop childhood risk scores capable of predicting both asthma incidence and persistence into young adulthood.
